Easter Blessing of Food
Saturday, April 19 | Noon
Parishioners are invited to bring a basket of food, to be shared at their family table at Easter, to be blessed in the Church Narthex on Holy Saturday at noon.
The blessing of Easter food is a common tradition in Eastern Europe. As a token of gratitude for God's gifts and grace, families have symbolic foods that will be shared at their table blessed by the parish priest in the hope that spring, the season of the Resurrection, will also be blessed by God's goodness and mercy. Items in the basket can be personalized to each family's tradition, but typically include ham, smoked bacon, sausage, butter, cheese, bread, vinegar, horseradish, salt, pepper, decorated eggs, sweets, holy water and a white candle symbolizing Jesus, the light of the world.
